Neighbors Suburban Warfare Beginner’s Guide [Playtest]

Author: Unknown Author Update Time: 2025-03-22

If you've been looking for a laid-back, casual PvP experience unlike most competitive FPSs, you may want to check out Neighbors: Suburban Warfare. It's a hero shooter in which two teams battle to defend their homes and destroy the opponent's base in a cartoony environment. Here's a detailed beginner's guide discussing all the characters, gameplay mechanics, and elements.

Complete Beginner's Guide to Neighbors Suburban Warfare

As mentioned previously, your objective in Neighbors Suburban Warfare is to destroy the important belongings in the enemy team's house while making sure yours is safe from them. The game is planned for an April 17 release this year, which is just a few weeks away.

How to win in Neighbors Suburban Warfare - Items to destroy

Each house has four items in four different sections of the building:

  • Living Room - Television
  • Kitchen - Stove/Range
  • Bathroom - Toilet Seat
  • Bedroom - Bed

Whichever team manages to destroy the enemy's all four equipment first come out victorious. To do so, you'll have to pass through enemy defenses, destroy the entrances (door or window) first, and then knock up the furniture. However, this isn't that easy as the enemy will be doing the same and you must defend your belongings as well. Furthermore, stay prepared for a melee battle with the opponents.

Best Neighbors to play with - Ranking all characters

The developers of Neighbors Suburban Warfare have made sure not to overcomplicate things in the game, hence, the characters are pretty easy to understand. While most heroes are melee combat-focused, some can be better healers while others can be attackers.

Try out everyone and pick whoever suits your playstyle best. It's important to divide roles and pick different characters in a team so you can defend and attack simultaneously. Having said that, here's my ranking of the neighbors from best to least favorite of mine in the game based on early impressions.

Are there cosmetics in the game?

Yes, Neighbors Suburban Warfare features various skins for your characters and their weapons. These can be purchased and equipped in the Neighbors menu under the Appearance tab. Furthermore, each hero has a golden skin (see second image above) that can be unlocked for free by reaching level 20 for that Neighbor.

How do Perks work in Neighbors?

The game doesn't have a skill tree but a selection of Perks that are automatically unlocked as you level up your hero. Each character can be equipped with one Neighbor Specific Perk and a General Perk (two skills in total). As the name implies, the former is unique to the Neighbor while the latter is constant for all. Pick the ones that aid you in your approach to the game, be it offense or defense.

How to Defend in Neighbors Suburban Warfare

When the match begins, the first task is to strengthen your defenses to prevent enemies from attacking:

  • Use Barricades lying around to fortify windows and fences.
  • Pick up Bear Traps in the garage and place them around the house to stun affected enemies.
  • Collect Resource Crates from the construction site nearby and deposit them at the Shop to upgrade your fencing and gain access to new items in the buy menu.
  • Purchase new items from the shop to improve your defense and attack.

Spend the money you've collected over time in the Shop to upgrade your defenses and acquire new gear. You can purchase the following types of gear:

  • Utility: Includes an Oil Well that can earn you more money, a Hen House that produces Eggs you can use to heal and boost melee damage, a Ladder to climb neighbor's house, and much more.
  • Defense: All kinds of traps, shields, and barriers to defend yourself and the house.
  • Offense: Attack gear that's mostly effective against players.
  • Demolition: Attack gear that's mainly effective against structures like barricades and doors.

Choosing the right weapon for the occasion is important. For instance, the Saw is one of the best tools to destroy objects, but it can't be used to fight other players.

How to Attack in Neighbors Suburban Warfare

While fortifying your house, don't forget to knock on the enemy's door to destroy their four key objects if you want to win the match. But do so carefully, as although you respawn after death, it may put a burden on your team and leave your house with less defense.

Beware of the Guard Dog at night as it has a powerful attack. Finally, I would like to suggest two wonderful attack gear you must try in Neighbors Suburban Warfare: Orange Cannon and Sledgehammer. The Sledgehammer deals maximum damage against structures and destroys home objects rather easily. On the other hand, you can use the Orange Cannon as a long-range projectile launcher, but the slow reload speed can feel frustrating at times.
